What is this challenge about?
This isn't just a test of your cybersecurity skills.

It's a test of your ability to perform cybersecurity tasks under pressure, just like in the real-world.

You see, cybersecurity threats can happen in the blink of an eye. As a cybersecurity expert, you need to be able to move fast under pressure.

So we designed a 2-hour, LIVE, Capture-the-Flag cybersecurity challenge to see if you can handle the pressure to execute cybersecurity measures in a simulated real-world environment.
Capture-the-Flag Rules
Task 1
Analyzing obfuscated VBA macro containing sample code downloading an executable from the Internet.
Task 2
Analyzing network traffic with Wireshark and Fiddler to detect potentially malicious communication.

Using ProcessMonitor to analyze process activities

Meet Your Hosts & Teachers
Paula Januszkiewicz
Paula Januszkiewicz, MVP, MCT and Microsoft Regional Director has 15 years of experience in the cybersecurity field, performing penetration tests, architecture consulting, trainings and seminars.

She has performed hundreds of security projects, including those for governmental organizations and big enterprises, at the same time being a top speaker and a keynote speaker at many well-known conferences, including Microsoft Ignite (rated No 1 Speaker among 1100 speakers at a conference with 26000 attendees), RSA (in 2017 in San Francisco her session was one of the 5 hottest sessions), Black Hat, CyberCrime etc., where she is often rated as No 1 speaker.

Her presentations gather thousands of people. In 2019, Paula's presentation was voted best of Black Hat Asia 2019 Briefings!
Michał Jankowski-Lorek, Ph.D.
Mike Jankowski-Lorek, Ph.D. is a Cloud Solutions & Machine Learning Expert at CQURE. He is data scientist, solution architect, developer and consultant.

Mike designs and implements solutions for Databases, data analysis and natural language processing. He is interested in Big data, High Availability and real-time analytics especially when combined with machine learning and artificial intelligence or NLP.

Mike has recently defended his PhD thesis in which he combined academic knowledge, professional experience and strong technical skills!

Holder of many IT certificates such as MCT, MCP and MCDBA.

When will the live Capture-the-Flag challenge happens?
The challenge will happen ONLINE on Tuesday, 31st of August 2021 at 6 pm CEST, 12 pm EDT, 9 am PDT.
How long will it take?
The live Capture-the-Flag challenge will take approximately 2-2.5 hours.
How does it work?
After registering for free, we will email you a link to join the live challenge on 31 of August with all necessary instructions. During the challenge, you will need to submit your tasks LIVE during the broadcast. Instructions on how to submit your tasks and other technical details will be explained at the beginning of the challenge, so come early to make sure you don't miss it.

What do I need?
To participate in the challenge, you will need Windows 10 Lab Computer / Virtual machine with the following software installed:
  • Microsoft Office (Trial version accepted)
  • Wireshark
  • Process Monitor from System Internals Toolkit
  • Fiddler Classic
